if you can't tuck it pluck it! there's "no" problem with pruning. the key is not to do too much at any one time. stretch it out for a couple days. fluorescent side lighting is pretty much a waste. in order for them to do any good, they must be very close. you do that, and now you're restricting airflow. i'm talking about fixtures like t-5's. the bulbs would be totally laughable. if you keep your plants at a height that doesn't go much beyond the lights penetration depth, you don't need to worry about the sides.
