I think you might have a problem demonstrating that the recreational use of MJ is beneficial, but that shouldn't be the purpose of your discussion.

Recreational use of alcohol isn't beneficial, but we trust the people who live in this country to make their own decisions about whether or not to partake.

The point is that MJ isn't nearly as detrimental to your physical well-being as alcohol, thus we should allow people to make their own decisions about it as well.
