I'm actually considering packing things up next year and just hike around for a while. Definately going to do the whole AT during that time- then I want to see the midwest.

Another good book is 'A walk across america' by Peter Jenkins. Basically in 1973 (or maybe '72) he was very unsatisfied with the country and the people in it and was planning to leave the country. Instead he decides he would give this country one more chance and hike around the country to see it.
