SOmething like replenishing our earth or something basically another ice age and the world starts all over....
IMO it wont be the end of the human race.... because we have far to much we need to accomplish and not enough time before the world is destroyed.... So with the restart button pressed the race may be able to accomplish much more than the damned we have on earth today.

About the mayans. They don't say that the world will end. The mayans had an advanced knowledge of time and how it goes through cycles along with the rest of the universe. Time and its properties change throught history. What the mayan calender is saying more or less is that 2012 is going to be the end of one cycle and the start of an entirely new one.
