Learn all you can about the EMERGENCY POWERS of the United States.
Read the appeals document it will teach you a lot, especially if you are a law student.

Lawyers are officers of whoever pays them. If you're paying a lawyer and you tell him to do something, he is actually required by law to do it. Unless he realizes the naivety behind it all...then he'd probably just quit on your case because he wouldn't want to get embarassed in public court.
