Hey bud, you know, I never callibrated my meter. They said it was callibrated at the factory and it lookes right on to me. I did aeroponic cloning and sure as shit, roots would not grow unless it read 5.5-5.80.
Here's the thing on the strains, indicas have the couch lock, stoned, body high people like to use for sleep and pain. The sativas IMO have a more social, up head high that can result in chatty behavior. That is the one I would think you like. If you get a sativa indica just harvest when most of the trichs are cloudy and that should give up high feeling as well.
As for that purple root I have no idea.
