Up until Lebron did it, Kobe was the youngest to 10,000. I think he was the youngest to 20,000 also....which Lebron will probably break.
If I had to choose between Lebron and Kobe for MVP, I would take Kobe everytime. Its not enough just to throw out the hypothetical, 'Which team would be better
without said player'. Obviously the Lakers would be better without Kobe than the Cavs would be without Lebron.
Both players can create their own shot out of nothing. Both players have uncanny court vision. Both players, without a doubt, make their team better. Golfers can atest to this..... you play to your surroundings. If your playing with a scrub who duffs every shot, you will have the tendency to play shitty. If you are playing with someone who crushes every shot and they are all straight as an arrow...then you will usually play at or close to your best. Lebron and Kobe are the latter..... the young kids playing with them are almost forced to bring their game up to another level.
Kobe is an all-around better player. Better free throw shooter, 3 point shooter, more clutch. But when it comes down to it.....Kobe is a way better defender. Lebron is good, mainly because he is huge and extremly athletic......that will allow anyone to be at minimum, a 'good' defender. But Kobe is relentless. He constantly guards the opposing team's best player due to being the 2 guard. He plays shut down, physical, energetic defense that can easily hold a great player in check. Whats amazing to me is that he still has the stamina to be an outstanding offensive player
while playing intense defense.
I would have to give the rebounding edge to Lebron....if only for his size and strength. I can imagine jumping up for a board with him.....I bet he is a fucking rock. When Lebron comes down the lane, body parts go flying off of him and dudes get displaced.
I can't remember the last time the competition for MVP was this close. Whishever player gets it, they deserve it. Both teams will make the playoffs so that shouldn't have anything to do with it. If one or the other team missed the playoffs, the player on the playoff team should win the MVP hands down. Any team can miss the playoffs without a superstar. But if the Lakers make it to, and lose in the Finals...and the Cavs lose in the Conference Finals...that should have nothing to do with who gets the award.
