I do have a couple of questions though...
1) Sounds like aspartame is pretty common in drinks. Do you have to pretty much only drink water?

yeah, but fuck tap water, that shit tastes crap and gies water a bad name. as soon as your savings jar is full enough, buy yourself a water filter, or better yet, a reverse osmosis machine (which althoguh higher initial outlay, saves you money in long run as doesnt require replacement filters for aaaaages more). and pure water tastes suhweeeeet! though most people havnt a clue how tasty water really is. its not just the crap that comes from the pipes, its the flouride and chlorine and other shit they put in it.
back when i was livin in my old place before they kicked me out for cultivating medicine, i lived with a guy who had access to a reverse osmosis water purifier at work and a tester. our water had over 400 parts per million of "not water". at his work just down the street it was over 600 parts per million not water. after running it through the reverse osmosis machine, it was 4 parts per million not water. we bought a couple 5L spring water bottles and would wander along the street with the pure water... prolly what made the cops think we had a commercial op on the go now i think about it, lol.
edit~ SMOOOOOOTHIES!
yeah.

2) Do you avoid all fast food?

naaah. i make food real fast. really tasty too.
... OH! you ment the crap from places like McDs... nah, fuck that shit. its barely food at all. havnt u seen "Supersize Me"?

3) What are the main things you look for on a label to avoid?
|
aspartame & ascesulfame K.
anything that says
"partially hydrogenated" "partially inverted" or "inverted".
there's two types of fat, and you need them in equal measure. saturated and not saturated. the extra freak you dont want is the "trans" fats. they bind to your cells like one type but dont behave like it on the other end of the molecule, thus inhibiting your cells ability to comunicate with the other cells in your body.
anything
"e numbers". i know some are actually ok, but we're probably talking like 4% of them, so just run away from them all unless u wanna carry a book sized list with you when shopping to know what they are. idk if they have e numbers that side of the pond.
me personally, i cant go near e150d now unless i wanna risk getting hooked again, and i'm still recovering from the damage from dr p even though i've been off it for years.
"flavourings". seriously. i know that cuts out alot. if they dont tell you what they are, its likely for more reasons than lazyness or trade secrets of granny's recepie.
caffeine... life really does just get so much better when you scrap the "fake-awake".
alcohol... k, i realise this is an unpopular one. if you feel you must drink it, do so in moderation adn follow these tips to: avoid all wines that say in small print on the label
"contains sulphites" (that goes for dried fruit too), even though this will add a couple extra quid/bucks, its SOOO worth it. tastes WAY better, and less hangover. sulphites do nasty shit to you i aint even gonna go into. ideally, if you wanna drink alcohol.... MAKE YOUR OWN! go buy a beer kit and do it propperly. do you have any idea how much you save!??? we're talking pints for cheaper than polish prices!!! and if you've been to poland... you know thats FUCKING cheap. also.... alcohol escapes the labeling regs of food. YOU JUST DONT KNOW WHATS IN IT!!!!
sugar. SUGAR TOO!??!? yup. if fucks with your imune system. if u got a sweet tooth, then learn where the natural sweetness is. honey is your first stop. it actually augments your imune system rather than acting like taking a scouring brush to it. but go easy on it, you can over do it. start getting handy with the search engines to learn more.
educate yourself so you may educate others.
red meat... i know this is a tough addiction to beat. but it's well worth it, for the sake of both your brain and bowels.
factory chicken that's anything but free range. they put antibiotics in them constantly and are ever upping the dose and types to deal with all the super bugs the chicks get. this can have very serious consequences for your ability to fight of disease, and not just you personally, this very directly ripples out to everyone each time you buy. not to mention all the hate and cruelty you'd be ingesting. you are what you eat. lol.
tuna and farmed salmon. i only just recently heard about the tuna... aparently high levels of mercury. the salmon is a different story. i know guys who work at the farms.... you know that lovely pink salmon is .... in nature, thats from eating prawns (yummy), but in farms, its from eating chemical dye thats known to cause cancer... not just in you, butt he fish... they chuck away loads with rediculous amounts of massive tumours.
up to you how many of those you take on board.
i reccomend paying attention to the one's that can save your brain first, so you can make your own mind up on the rest later.
