I am using RO water also.
I use AN Barricade and baking soda to buffer the solution.
Here is what I do.
I am using DM nutes.
When I add the Dm nutes the ph will be around 5.3-5.4
I use one drop of Barricade for each gallon of rez. This will usually bring the pH to 5.6-5.7
In a few hours the pH will fall, and I adjust it again with Barricade.
This will go on for a day or two.
The tds will fall also, and when it has fallen about 20%, I add some nutes to bring the tds back to 90%. This will cause the pH to fall, and I will use Barricade and a touch of baking soda, to bring the pH back to 5.6
After adding nutes and barricade, and a very small amount of baking soda(1/4 tsp in 20gl), the pH and the tds will become very stabil. This stability may last for a week.
If your rez temp is 65-68 then you should be OK for a day or so without checking the pH.
Really, I think the best thing to do if you are going away, would be to flush the rez, and leave it full of plain RO, without nutes, until you got back.
Move the lights up, so the plant won't transpire too much, and it will be fine.
This is the safest thing to do.
That way nothing can go wrong, and the pH doesn't matter.
Add nutes when you get home, and the plants won't skip a beat.
