the thing that makes music so great is that it can be interpreted in many ways. purple haze may have had something to do with owsleys acid, but if my knowledge of hendrix's albums and songs, he wrote that before he was given the purple haze acid.

the purple haze blotters were given to jimi before his performance i think at monterey, at which he played songs from the album "are you experienced" which purple haze was the first track. monterey was the JHE's first official live appearance in the US, and I speculate that its highly likely the acid was created for jimi, named after a song that was already written before the acid batch had even been mixed. its a nice thought to say oh well jimis talking about acid, or weed or whatever. hes just talking about a dream he had. tripping is like dreaming, many people practice lucid dreaming, and dreams can be very very surreal. note the line "excuse me while i kiss the sky"...

what sense does that make? well, hes talking about a dream he had where he was underwater (a theme in several songs), so naturally, jimi being human, would have to come up to the surface to "kiss the sky" as in get oxygen to breath.

its all how YOU look at it. jimi didnt write the music with a purpose of getting one message accross, he wanted people to derive their own meaning from what he was creating.
