200 years ago we had slavery, extreme limitation of speech, limited voting rights, and lynchings.
And people DO spout anti American views in the middle of cities. They do protest the government and it's policies.
Try doing that back in the beginning of this country or in the 1910's or even in the fifties.
We presently:
- Have no slavery
- Do not prosecute people for their speech
- Can vote regardless of sex or gender
- Do not have to enlist in the military
- Have rights to the point where cases will be thrown out of court if procedure is not exactly followed
- Do not murder people for occupying lands that have been theirs for generations
- Have a public school system
- Do not put people on trial for their political views
- Have an intimate view into the government via C Span and other media outlets
I could keep going.
Really, the only complaints I have with the government are as follows:
-Taxxes
-Drug Prohibition
-Weak Borders and too lenient punishment for Illegal aliens
-Legal Abortion
-Fairly stupid president
So tell me, what is so bad about now? Oh you can't smoke a blunt. Boohoo. I'd rather everyone be able to vote.
