To bustajibb and burnweed, I would not do any type of hydro until you have the bugs worked out of your grow room and have learned the basics of indoor growing. To dive in and have everything hit you at once will cause more grief then it's worth.

When you have your grow room going like clockwork, the issues you will run into when you go hydo will seem minor.

A very simple way to start out is to do a premix soil grow. You wont have to mix plant food or add anything the entire grow. If you use 5-gallon buckets to do your soil grow in, then you will be all set when you switch over to my bubble buckets. Vic's super soil is my favorite premix:
1 Bale sunshine mix #2 or promix (3.8 cu ft)
8 cups Bone Meal - phosphorus source
4 cups Blood Meal - nitrogen source
1 1/3 cups Epsom salts - magnesium source
3-4 cups dolomite lime -calcium source & pH buffering
4 cups kelp meal.
9kg (25 lbs) bag pure worm castings

- Mix thoroughly, moisten, and let sit uncovered 1-2 weeks before use.

Doing a premix soil grow will allow you the time to concentrate on the grow-room environment. I did that Vic's soil for years and it kicks ass. Never add anything to it is the key (except water). When you can grow killer plants with Vic's everytime, then start building your DWC or other hydro kit.
Best of luck, R
