We are very lucky to be humans. You could have been a dog, cat, horse, moose etc. but you aren't. You are reading this right now and understanding it because we are the all power of the world (we control almost all other living things). Is that good or bad? We are one of the smartest life forms on Earth and we take that for granted. [quote]
we are lucky to be humans..... not because we 'control' all other species. and not because we are better than other species. but because we can say, proudly, that we are the perfection of evolution. we are lucky to be the 'top species'... but thats it.
We absolutly are one of the, if not the smartest species on the planet. and we do take that for granted. we take for granted the millions of years that our ancestors struggled to survive. we take for granted the mountains of data that proves we were all once (and still are) primates, underground mammals hiding from dinosaurs, fish moving to land, microbial life forms, atoms and stardust.
we just live our ignorant and money driven lives because. because why??? because our parents did?? and their parents and theirs?? life should be much more simple. that is why, personally, i don't think humans are all that. I envy the lion who doesn't have to worry about making bill payments. all he worries about is his next meal and continuing the legacy of his pride, and ultimatly his species.
humans didn't get where we are today by buying off all the land and stripping its resources bare. we didnt get where we are today by having more money or material possesions than our neighbor. we got where we are today by doing what is instinctually programmed in our brains. eating and mating. fighting and conquering is a groomed trait. monkeys fight othe monkey clans too..... but they don't destroy entire cities.
neanderthals were once at the top of the evolutionary ladder.....during their time they were the most highly evolved, smartest and best adapted species. until our closest relatives, cromagnum man came along and took the top spot. and before neandethals there was a different 'top species'.... and so on back through history.
humans have been around for a VERY short period of time. compared to when species started flurishing on earth... we have only been around for a blink of an eye. and we still have been able to desimate many species and bring our planet to a point where is easier to say the planet is endangered....instead of some species. having said that..... i am quite embarrased to be a human. out of the millions of species there are now.....and the millions there have been.....yea we are the smartest and most evolved...... but we dont know how to live in harmony with our mother planet like EVERY OTHER species does. in the search for a cheaper energy source...or for the best place to put up a hotel....we (humans) have been able to bring our world to its knees. i am not proud at all to be of the same species that single handedly ruined the world. being as advenced as we are... we should be able to live on peacefully. like the billions of species have before us and are doing now. we are just making it harder for them. the earth is roughly 4.5 BILLION years old. and humans have kicked its ass in less than 2000. ancient egyptians didn't pour toxic waste into the rivers.
i'm concerned for our future. what will the next 'top species' bring?? the end of the world most likely.
