It's basically the pursuit of obtaining wisdom by intellectual views and investigating things without the use of empirical methods. In a nut shell It's the study of principals and concepts to seek the truth.
This organization of thought process known as philosophy is significant and an interesting branch of knowledge because despite ones background, religious views, education etc. people can come together to add their own views regarding a question...
I think the reason It's not touched upon in schools is because it encourages you to question things as a whole and inquire. And that's not something governments want, is it's citizens questioning the aspects of what make up the things government are involved with.
An English professor I had once said talked to me about how people can take your freedom, belongings, money and others things you value. but one thing that can't be taken from you is your education. That kinda stuck with me...your education is all dependant on what you decided to learn. You're in control of what you take into consideration an analyze. Despite what you've learned your knowledge and how you question things is something that can't be controlled by other than yourself. And that's beautiful, there's no better way to describe it than that, "beautiful" you know? Everyone's mind is unique and when people come together to attack issues It can be a powerful thing.
Inquiring things in a philosophical nature to me is like a workout for the brain. It's nothing but healthy to extend your thoughts out regarding unimportant things and aspects that don't necessarily apply to anything benefiting you as a whole or society. And wondering and attempting to answer questions that may have no definite answer. I love blazing up and just wondering why things happen the way they do. People get caught up in their jobs, family, and technology, and don't use philosophy to apply it to their lives too much today. There aren't famous philosophisers or modern day Aristotle's anymore because thats not something that's necessary and considered important anymore. People don't question anymore because society is based upon structure and orderly systems in order to function correctly. But I like to drift and break down things to get my mind off of others things bothering me and whatnot. Philosophy to me is a branch of knowledge and as important part of the brain as any other. it's hard to imagine why we do things like dream and can become intoxicated and view things at different angles and then call philosophy insignificant.
I prolly sound like some old douchebag thats venting right now but I'm just curious and bored.
So what does philosophy mean to you? |
Me and you think the same cannabis, i'm tellin you man

, Philosophy is the study of truth indeed, and it is the whole and trueest facet of our human existence, the seeking of true knowledge, not by any religous or scientific bias but as universal knowlede as a whole, the gathering of truth to enlighten our minds with infinete and beautiful knowledge (and i'll be honest with you too man, i never read a tit in your post when i posted before haha

, ) but now i have
And Schools will rather give you a drama and a play than true philosophy, a useless story of sublevel drama, they should start teaching ode's and diologues on philosophies of plato in future- its good for a questioning mind ( especially ancient odes of the aristotles and the socrates and platos, i believe that B.C. had some of the greatest philosophical minds of all time, who could reduce simplicity into knowledge -and knowledge into truth, (its the building up of the man to logic and reason, and philosophy can be read for the man himself, it has more meaning to some men and vice versa)
People dont question any more because were creating a bumblebee society, which lacks the impression to 'think' on their own, they lean on theorised hypotheses and beliefs and lack the intervention to question with their own minds what they have been taught.
I strongly believe in a healthily intoxicated state of mind for the purpose of opening up the mind (, not to get stoned but as platform for the freeing of the self and closed thought patterns of everyday existance and opening a highway broadband of speculatave thought )
