This is a quote from Katt williams from the july 2007 issue of higtimes , it makes alot of sense to me.
Dan Skye- " Why do you think marijuana continues to be llegal?"
Katt- " There is only one reason weed is illegal. Remember, this is the same country where prohibition was law. At one time, alcohol was fine, everybody had their own personnel stills, made their private batches, or knew sombody down the road who made whisky. But the government noticed that no taxes were being paid. The only way they could tax it was to make it illegal for a period of time - long enough to knock down the stills, put people in jail and disrupt all distibution. But as long as they were doing that they were telling people with money that prohibitions not going to last forever ; you might want to build yourself a buisness.
When prohibition was over and alcohol was back in buissnes, everything was in place and everything worked - and the government gets a nice tax out of it.
that can never happen with marijuana, simply because it comes with seeds. Sometimes theyre right theyre in the bag for you, and it doesnt take much to grow it. So they cant tax it effectively. Thats why it remains illegal."
