Of the four known dimensions, time certainly is the least understood. By definition a unit of time is a fraction of the speed of light. As such, the one is dependent upon the other. Gets very circular very fast. If time speeded up, slowed down, or even stopped to start again later, we'd never now.
So far we've just postulated that time is well behaved, much like the other three dimensions is.
I see time as the crest of a wave. Everything behind the crest is what made the crest. Everything in front of the crest, will become the future crest. As such, time expands, and will after a while slow down, to ultimately, well, nothing.
This follows from the fact that the universe is accelerating in it's expansion, eventually to tear itself apart.
And perhaps, behind us, another big-bang have already happened. Creating another ripple of time and space. Like several waves in a pond. We exist on one of those ripples. On one of those crests.
