Using any sort of fuel that requires land area to produce is dumb. It takes more energy to grow plants for m/ethanol than the fuel itself contains. Also, it would take somewhere near 97% of US irrigable land to produce enough plants for fuel.
The only direction is to move towards a more abundant fuel source. And considering hydrogen is the most abundant element in the universe...
