I would probably go for glass if I were you. Metal pipes do tend to get hot, although I have never really been able to taste any difference. You do have to mess with screens in a metal pipe though, and that can be a pain. Also I have heard that smoking out of metal is not really healthy because the heat can release chemicals in the metal. Metal pipes do tend to travel better though. You don't have to worry about breaking them like with glass. They can also be simpler to use because most don't have a carb like most glass pieces, just lite and hit. I have one metal and one glass and I prefer the glass unless I am going to be carrying it around a lot or letting a lot of other people smoke out of it (more chance to be dropped).
