from what I understand it's perfectly okay for the roots to grow right into the water. This is my first true hydro grow but I'ved used wick systems before where the roots grow right down the nylon rope into the water. Oh but is that clay residue from the grow rock? You should clean that shit out, I don't know if this is true but I could only imagine that would throw off any TDS levels. Just a guess. Peace
